The Milner Building is an office structure built in 1957 for the Northwest Utilities, now ATCO, and represents one of the finer examples of mid-century modern architecture in Edmonton.
The building is in excellent repair, located on 104 Street a half-block south of the one of the most vibrant sections of Jasper Avenue, a walk of less than 5 minutes to the Ice District. In the last couple of years, the area has seen a significant increase in commercial activity with several upscale restaurants thriving in the vicinity.
This study explored a variety of re-purposing or re-development options, including residential condominium lofts, rental lofts, boutique hotels as well as hotels with residences. Also explored were scenarios for increasing or adding mixed use at grade, adding amenity areas such as spa, pool and fitness, and expanding the parking below grade.
