Senior Contract Administrator

Position Overview

Responsible for successful implementation of the construction phase for large and complex projects of various building types. Acts as the primary liaison between the client, contractor, and Project Manager for the duration of construction. Actively mentor and coach other Contract Administrators to foster career progression. Participate as an integrated discipline within design delivery phases to enhance Quality Control and Quality Assurance. Provides ongoing Technical Peer Review on project work.

 

Key Functions and duties

  • Lead the firm in planning the profitable execution of the CA stage of large and/or complex projects.

  • Take an active role in employee development, motivation, and engagement by mentoring and coaching staff.

  • Provide feedback on buildability, code, etc. issues to production team.

  • Establish job protocol and lines of communication between owner, architect, engineers, contractor, construction managers, subcontractors (if applicable), and vendors.

  • Ensure that owner, architect, engineers, contractor, construction manager, subcontractors (if applicable), deploy and engage correctly KENNEDY’s CA delivery format and software tools.

  • Manage construction delivery issues with authorities having jurisdiction.

  • Assist the Project Leader / Senior Management / Principal(s) with the monitoring of project performance at Construction Administration stage of strategic projects, and to resolve issues.

  • Advise Project Leader / Senior Management / Principal(s) of any project contract administration issues and work to resolve any problems.

  • Maintain a close and trusted relationship with KENNEDY’s Client’s.

  • Participate in the QAQC Process.

  • Review contract conditions and confirm interpretation with client and contractor.

  • Establish protocol and lines of communication between owner, architect, engineers, contractor, subcontractors ( if applicable), and vendors.

  • Attend and represent KENNEDY at all contractor / client / job site meetings during CA phase of project as required.

  • Provide feedback to produce successful design and construction documentation, and correct appropriate technical content.

  • Ensure coordination of consultant documentation with respect to project criteria, client program, drawings, and specifications, and standards of excellence. Coordinate additional services with the client as required.

  • Take responsibility for the “Risk Management” of the project for KENNEDY during construction.

  • Ensure detailed Development By-Law and Building Code review / analysis are prepared, distributed and filed.

  • Monitor and support on-site contract administration requirements including completion of professional responsibilities such as deficiency reports, required site reviews, certificates of payment, and letters of assurance.

  • Participate in the peer review process for KENNEDY projects.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in related field

  • 10-15 years of construction administration experience.

  • CCCA certification is considered an asset.

  • Proficient in bidding procedures, project field reporting, field reviews, payment certification, site document processing (CCN/RFI/SI) and contract change procedures.

  • Possess a wide knowledge of procurement types, contracting principles and regulations, policies and practices.

  • Strong building science background with an excellent understanding of construction processes, methods and materials.

  • Technical background in AutoCAD, Revit and Onware.

  • Exceptional communication and leadership / team skills.

  • Proactive, confident approach to contract administration.

  • Ability to represent KENNEDY professionally at senior levels.

  • Solid and detailed understanding of applicable local building codes, bylaws and local governance including the authorities having jurisdiction.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Proven track record of maintaining high quality standards while working within tight deadlines.

  • Valid Drivers Licence
